Empowering Educators for a New Era: Teachers’ Orientation at Don Bosco School, Sashipur

An enriching and insightful orientation session for the teachers of Don Bosco School, Sashipur was conducted on 25th April 2026 in the school auditorium. The session was animated by Rev. Br. (Dr.) Albert Longley Dkhar, the former Principal of St. Anthony’s College Shillong.

The programme commenced with a prayer led by Fr. Nicodim Aind, the Principal of the school. Following the prayer, Fr. Principal extended a warm welcome to Br. Albert Longley and all the participants, setting a positive tone for the day.

In his first session, Br. Albert addressed the topic “Professional Preparation of the Teacher: Teacher as Facilitators (NEP 2020)”. He elaborated on the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, highlighting the evolving role of teachers as facilitators of learning, mentors, guides, and builders of critical thinking among students. He also provided practical insights into lesson planning in alignment with NEP 2020 and emphasized the effective use of Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs). Reflecting on the Salesian ethos, he reminded the teachers that every child entering the classroom carries someone’s hope and future, and therefore must be treated with utmost care and responsibility.

The second session focused on “Child Safety and Professional Boundaries: A Sacred Trust.” Br. Albert dealt extensively with the importance of maintaining professional ethics and ensuring the safety of every child. He presented five case studies, which were discussed in groups. The discussions and subsequent sharing were deeply enriching, especially in understanding real-life situations in the light of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).

In the third session, Br. Albert highlighted the importance of teamwork in building a strong and vibrant school community. He emphasized that collaboration among teachers is essential for institutional growth and student success.

During the evaluation segment, the teachers expressed their appreciation and reflections. Mr. Bijay Thakur conveyed his gratitude to Br. Albert for sharing his vast experience as a teacher and Principal across various Don Bosco institutions in the North East. Miss Evanjuli Goyari expressed her satisfaction at being part of such a meaningful orientation, noting that it helped her understand the importance of preparation and teamwork. Mrs. Barihun Nongbri, in her remarks, spoke about the fear of examinations among students and suggested a shift towards continuous assessment to make learning more joyful.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Royal Baraily, who thanked Fr. Nicodim Aind for organizing the orientation at the beginning of the academic session and expressed sincere appreciation to Br. Albert for animating the session despite traveling from Shillong.

The orientation programme ended on a warm and pleasant note with a high tea served to all the participants.
